NOTE: This FAQ is intended for SportsEngine Motion clients based in the UK or EU/Ireland. It covers what the new verification requirements mean for your organization, what you'll need to do, and by when.
Why am I being asked to verify my organization?
Our payment processor is implementing updated verification requirements across all European markets as part of their EU/UK Online Registration Requirements (ORR) program. These changes are designed to comply with evolving European regulatory standards — including requirements from the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) — around identity, legal entity, and relationship verification.
If your organization processes payments through SportsEngine and is based in the UK or EU/Ireland, you will need to complete a verification step to keep your payouts active.
Who is affected?
Any SportsEngine Motion organization based in the UK or EU/Ireland that has payment processing enabled is affected. This includes:
· Companies (Ltd, LLP)
· Non-profits, clubs, and societies (incorporated and unincorporated)
· Registered charities / CASCs
· Sole traders / individual organizers
What is the deadline?
September 30, 2026. Organizations that have not completed verification by this date risk having payouts paused.
What happens if I don't complete verification?
Your organization's ability to receive payouts may be temporarily paused if the required information isn't provided by the deadline. You may also lose the ability to process payments entirely.
What will I need to provide?
The information required depends on your organization type:
Companies (Ltd / LLP)
Legal entity name, address, and company registration number
Account representative details (name, date of birth, address, government ID)
Director details (name, date of birth, address) — up to 5 directors required
Beneficial owner details (if any individual owns 25% or more)
Non-Profits, Clubs & Societies (Incorporated and Unincorporated)
Organization name, address, and country
Account representative details (Treasurer/Secretary: name, DOB, address, government ID)
Committee member / director details (name, DOB, address, role)
In some instances, additional information might be requested.
Registered Charities / CASCs
Organization name, address, and charity/CASC registration number
Account representative details
Trustee / director details (name, DOB, address)
No beneficial owner information required
Sole Traders / Individual Organizers
Name, country, and business activity
Date of birth and address
Government-issued ID (if automatic verification fails)
How does the verification process work?
The first attempt to verify your information will happen automatically using public registry data (e.g., Companies House in the UK). If the automatic check passes, no further action is needed.
If the automatic check cannot be completed, you'll be asked to verify through one of these methods:
Electronic Attestation (Recommended) — A director or committee member digitally confirms their role and that the information provided is accurate. This is instant and requires no document uploads.
Document Upload — Upload a relevant official document (e.g., club constitution, certificate of incorporation, or charity registration).
Identity Verification — If individual identity cannot be verified automatically, you may be asked to upload a government-issued ID (e.g., passport or driver's license).
How do I complete verification in SportsEngine Motion?
Navigate to Business Tools > SE Payments > Settings.
Select General from the left-hand menu.
Under Primary SE Payment Account, click Update Account. You will be redirected to our payment processing partner's secure verification experience.
Depending on your organization type and verification requirements, you may be asked to complete one or more of the following:
Enhanced identity verification for account representatives, beneficial owners (UBOs), and directors.
Update their personal information, including providing a National ID number (where applicable).
Upload two documents:
Proof of Identity, such as a passport or driver's license.
Proof of Home Address, such as a utility bill or bank statement.
Legal entity verification, including confirming your organization's legal name, address, and registration number.
Director and beneficial owner verification, including reviewing, adding, or removing directors or beneficial owners and confirming their relationship with your organization.
If your organization is not registered with the UK Companies House or the Irish Register of Beneficial Ownership, we recommend using Electronic Attestation (this will be presented in the above verification flow), which verifies instantly and does not require document uploads.
Do I need to provide information for every director?
No — Only information for up to a maximum of 5 directors, even if your organization has more.
Can I use a placeholder date of birth for directors?
No. A programmatic background check is done to verify the relationship between directors and your organization. A placeholder or inaccurate date of birth will likely cause this check to fail, resulting in a higher-friction fallback — such as manually uploading official registry documents or completing a Digital Attestation.
What documents are acceptable for verification?
Acceptable documents vary by country. Common examples include:
Proof of Identity: Passport, driver's license, national ID card
Proof of Address: Utility bill, bank statement (within the last 3 months)
Proof of Business: Certificate of incorporation, club constitution, charity registration document
I've already been verified — do I need to do anything?
If our processing partner can automatically verify your information using existing data, you may not need to take any action. You'll receive an email notification if additional information is required. You can also check your payment account status in SE Payments Settings at any time.
Will my organization's payouts be affected during the verification process?
Your payouts should continue uninterrupted while you're actively completing the verification steps, as long as you complete verification before the September 30, 2026, deadline.
